BBL (Broadband Light)

Sciton’s BBL® HEROic™ is a science-backed solution for achieving youthful, vibrant skin, offering impressive results with minimal downtime. This acclaimed treatment addresses aging skin concerns such as tone, texture, acne, and sun or age spots in just 1 to 2 sessions, compared to the 5 to 6 treatments typically required with traditional IPL technology. During treatment, the BBL HEROic handpiece is gently glided across the skin, while a chilled sapphire crystal ensures comfort. Most patients feel little to no discomfort, though warmth may persist for 30 to 60 minutes afterward.

A personalized treatment plan will be tailored to meet individual skin revitalization needs, from corrective treatments to ongoing care. Post-treatment, patients can resume normal activities but should avoid direct sun exposure and follow their provider’s advice, including using sunscreen. While some sensitivity, redness, and darkening of pigmented areas may occur, the body’s natural healing process will replace damaged cells with fresh, revitalized skin over the following days to weeks.

What to Expect

  • During the treatment, you’ll experience minimal to no discomfort as your provider smoothly glides the BBL HEROic handpiece across your skin.
  • The chilled sapphire crystal helps maintain a cool and comfortable sensation.
  • Afterward, most patients may feel warmth for another 30 to 60 minutes.

Before Your Appointment

  • Please reveal any medical conditions that may be of significance to the laser procedure -such as pregnancy, cold sore and fever blister tendencies, any type of allergy, recent facial peels or surgery, all current medications including Accutane, tetracycline, hormone replacement therapy or use of Retin-A, or medications you are taking that might sensitize you to light, affect wound healing or affect coagulation.
  • You must avoid sunlight, tanning beds, self-tanners, and spray tans 4 weeks before and after treatment to prevent additional skin trauma.
  • To ensure optimal skin hydration before treatment, use gentle cleansers and moisturize for two weeks prior to your appointment. Avoid irritating or sensitive skin products.
  • Consult your provider if you are on medications that may increase light sensitivity, such as antibiotics, thiazide diuretics, or sulfur-based drugs. Lasers may be unsafe, or treatment protocols may need to be adjusted.
  • Medications like anticoagulants or high-dose aspirin may cause more bruising and longer healing times.
  • Inform your provider if you’ve taken Accutane in the last six months, as it is a contraindication for laser treatments.

After Your Appointment + Downtime

  • You may experience some redness in the treatment area that should resolve within a few hours.
  • You may notice darkening of your pigmented spots, followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage.
  • In most cases, you are able to apply makeup and return to work and resume most of your activities immediately.
